Your front windscreen is made of laminated safety glass, consisting of two glass layers with an inner layer of PVB. This construction ensures that the glass will crack rather than shatter.

For minor cracks or chips, a repair can often save your windscreen without requiring replacement. In cases of severe damage, the broken glass will adhere to the PVB layer, preventing large shards from dislodging. This safety feature reduces the risk of serious injury by keeping the glass intact, even under significant damage.

The rear windscreen, Sunroof, door glass and windows of vehicles are mostly made using single-layer tempered or toughened glass that breaks into small pebble-like fragments when broken, reducing the possibility of fatal or serious injuries caused by sharp glass fragments.

There is no way to repair tempered or toughened glass. Replacement is the only solution for damaged glass. 

Tempered or toughened glass is manufactured through a process where the glass is exposed to extremely high temperatures and then cooled down rapidly. This process increases the strength of the glass, making it four to five times stronger than normal glass and more resistant to heat.

This is why tempered or toughened glass parts do not break easily when you close your doors hard or park under the hot sun in Singapore, as their physical properties allow them to handle and endure such stress without breaking.
